Are You Prepared for Worst Case Scenario?

0

Some things are hard to think about. are you preparedAnd some things are just almost too horrible to think about that we brush them under the rug and pretend like we don’t have to think of them, ever.

Or is that just me?

As a procrastinator at heart AND the baby of the family, I am not the best at planning for the future and/or being overly prepared.  Which is why my very-responsible-brother-in-law sent me this link a few months ago — getyourshittogether.org . Truth be told, it took me a month to sign up (for free!). Then another month to download the checklist and start going through it.  Thankfully they send monthly reminders to kick me in the butt so that I eventually get it all done.

I’m not done, but I am working on it.  It just takes time to make these decisions and have these discussions.  Honestly, I’ve never thought about some of these questions before.  Do you know what your insurance will cover in case of a death in your family?  Do you know how you would pay for a funeral?  What does a funeral even cost?

What about DNR – how does your spouse feel about being resuscitated?  Does your spouse know how you feel about it?

And the big one – who gets your kids if something were to happen to both of you?  Do you have that information in a will?  And what makes a will legal in TX

Such hard questions.  But if they are hard for us now, imagine how hard they would be to answer in a time of emotional upheaval if you’ve never thought of them before.

I don’t want to imagine that.  Instead, I am going to print off my list, answer these questions one by one and get it over with.  Then I’m gonna lock it up somewhere tight (online and a hard copy) and then forget about it (hopefully) for forever.

Or, more likely, I’ll start working on it and not finish.  And then next month getyourshittogether.org will remind me that I need to finish it.  And eventually I will. Then I’ll put it away and HOPEFULLY never think about it again.

So, are you prepared for worst case scenario?  Any other suggestions for those of us who are not but who are trying to be?
