Stressing me out is a very simple task.  I do NOT like surprises.  As a result, I try to plan ahead and keep everything in my life in order.  I have a handwritten planner that I keep in my purse at all times, and I definitely always have to check my schedule before even saying yes to something simple and fun.  However, my life recently became full of surprises, and not of the fun variety.  I want to tell you how it was a pizza, Papa Murphy’s Jack-O Pizza to be exact,  that was ultimately responsible for restoring my sanity and turning my frown upside down.

Road to Discovery of the Jack-O Pizza

Our road to discovery of the Jack-O pizza is not a fairytale. It’s a parent’s version of a Halloween scary tale.  Once upon a time, it was a dark and stormy night.  Okay, I have no idea if it was stormy, but it was definitely dark. The complication is that our little pumpkin snores like a creature of the night.  She struggles to catch her breath and has excessive nosebleeds and a slight jaw deformation.  After lots of research and doctor’s visits, we finally found a treatment plan to get her on the road to recovery.

It will be about a year-long process with surgery, a tongue bed appliance, and then braces.  When she found out about her upcoming surgery and all that it entails, she became a complete scaredy cat.  After a lot of education and negotiation on this medical journey, our daughter came up with the perfect plan to help ease her nerves.  She wanted a pre-surgery Halloween party with her friends.

Pre-Surgery Halloween Party Planning

The downside is that we decided on this party 48 hours prior to the scheduled surgery.  We purchased Halloween themed plates, napkins, and cups.  Aria is OBSESSEDJack-O Pizza with pizza, and Papa Murphy’s is her absolute favorite.  Therefore, I logged on to their website to start placing my online order when I noticed the PERFECT pizza, the Jack-O pizza.  I managed to keep it a surprise from her knowing that this particular pizza was going to be the perfect touch for her party and bring a smile to her now consistent worried expression.

When I went to pick up the pizza, not only was it shaped like a jack-o’-lantern making it frightfully festive,  it was way bigger than I anticipated.  It easily fed eight kids, and I had ordered two pizzas.  The adults took advantage of the second Jack-O Pizza.  We also ordered the XLNY Giant Pepperoni and Ground Sausage that was equally fa-boo-lous.  In addition to the pizzas, we baked the Papa Murphy’s chocolate chip cookies knowing it would also provide an extra treat for the boo crew.

“Let’s give ‘em pumpkin to talk about!”

Now it’s officially party time!  The little ghouls and goblins were beyond thrilled when they saw the Jack-O pizza.  They made their own silly faces, and their giggles were contagious.  Everyone wanted the olive and pepperoni eyeball. We divided the pizza evenly, and then all the kids gathered in the living room to gobble it up while watching a Halloween movie on Netflix.  It was such a good time, and Aria did forget all about her fears for the night.  By the time everyone left, we were so stuffed that we easily drifted off to sleep without any further anticipation or discussions about the surgery the next morning.

Pumpkins Come And Pumpkins Go, But A Jack-O-Lantern Steals The Show!

I do have to add that not only was the pizza a success for the kids, the adults loved it as well.  The Jack-O pizza can be for any pumpkin party whether it be for the office, family movie night, an informal get together, or a planned party. For example, this is my month to host our book club, and we read The Institute by Stephen King.  I can’t think of a better and more affordable way to feed my book club ghouls than with the Papa Murphy’s Jack-O Pizza.  It is sure to be love at first bite.

*Author’s note: The surgery was a success.  She did have a lot of consistent pain for the first three days.  On the 4th day, we started to see small improvements.  She is still improving daily and already eager to order another Jack-O pizza.

Adrianne was raised in Canton, TX and moved to Las Vegas, NV when she was 18 to attend UNLV. After ten years of the city life, she decided she wanted to get back to her TX country girl upbringing. Her husband, Craig, and daughter, Aria (December 2012) decided to raise Myotonic (fainting) and Pygmy goats on a small farm. However, after three short years of outdoor chores, they eagerly altered their American Dream! They traded the acreage for a small lot in a subdivision in Wylie, where they currently reside, and opened Quality Care Pharmacy & Compounding. When Adrianne is not working, you can find her at Target, Sam's Club, or watching reality TV.
