The Belly Project | Ruth: 24 weeks

1

Ruth is pregnant with her first baby and kind enough to be sharing this journey with Dallas Moms Blog. We will get to experience with her the excitement, fears, and joy that comes with expecting. Be sure to also check out our other Belly Project blogger, Lindy Jo.

It’s been quite an eventful couple of weeks since I last shared with you Dallas Mom’s Blog Readers.  First of all, I am pleased to announce that I am feeling MUCH better than I did my first trimester.  Physically I have felt much better, and emotionally, I am actually starting to get excited for this new change that is getting more real every day.  To begin with, I found out the sex of the baby.  I respect all of you mom’s out there who chose to be surprised, but I am not sure HOW you had the discipline to do that.  I couldn’t have found out fast enough.  The tricky part was that my husband and I found out Friday, Sept. 30 but we didn’t tell anyone until October 8.  We decided to have a Gender Reveal Party to announce the sex to friends and family but my family is out of town and couldn’t all make it in until the following week.  There were so many decisions going into this party.  To begin with, my husband and I had to decide if we were going to find out early or wait and find out with everyone else.  I am so glad we decided to find out early.  It gave us a chance to celebrate and share that moment together.  It also allowed us to look at every detail on the ultrasound.  It is nerve-racking not knowing what is going on in this constantly rumbling tummy of mine.  I wish I could have an ultrasound every day and see what this baby is up to.  Unfortunately those don’t come every day and I am having to once again practice this skill of patience.  I am hoping to be a pro at this by the end of this pregnancy.

Now, about the gender reveal party.  We invited family and close friends over Saturday afternoon for a little celebration to find out the sex of Baby W.  We used owls to decorate and used the theme “Guess Whoo” for décor at the party.  We started with having everybody that came over visit our makeshift photo station.  We had boy props and girl props and signs that said Team Boy and Team Girl.  Each guest had to make their choice and get their photo snapped.  We also had 2 chalkboards where people could leave suggestions for Boy Names and Girl Names.  After everyone had their picture taken, and gave their opinion about names and snacked a little bit we had everyone gather around the table to cut the cake that held the surprise.  We let my parents cut the cake since we already knew.  They were thrilled when they cut the cake and saw BLUE!  Finally the secret was out.  I got to chat with my girlfriends and mom and sisters and look at stuff for boy nurseries and the boys hung out and watched football.  Paul convinced me that was his way of preparing for a son.  Everyone had a great time and I was thankful to have the opportunity to do something fun for my family and friends to celebrate our boy!

Needless to say, I am excited to begin getting our home ready for Baby Boy Wetherington.  Although registering seems daunting and overwhelming to me, I know I will be thankful to do so.  For all you pro mom’s out there, what are your tips for getting registered?  What are your can’t live without items that really helped you?

And here is my 24 week baby bump:

  1. Travel Highchair with the toys that snap in
    Pacimal
    Sling
Bibs: I didn’t know you needed different ones for drool and others for food. The drool ones get stained if they use them for food. I recommend the Tommee Tippee line of bibs for eating and bottles from babies r us; especially if you are also breastfeeding
Good diaper bag: Fashion is fun but make sure it is big, durable, easy to clean and has lots of compartments. I have a Skip Hop bag and I love it because it snaps onto my stroller really well.
Also, by Skip Hop there is a great diaper changing item called the Pronto changing station. We LOVE it! Very convenient.

Congratulations on your boy! I love my baby boy, Elliot…he is more then I could have ever hoped for!
