summer lakeSummer is upon us, and if you live east of Lake Ray Hubbard, you know that sometimes it’s hard to cross the bridge! Thankfully, you can find tons of summer fun in and around Rockwall County. Here are some of our fave things to do in Rockwall over the summer.

Live Music in Rockwall
The Harbor & San Jacinto Plaza

Head over to the Harbor in Rockwall every Thursday night to hear some great music this summer! From May to late July, you and the family can catch a variety of music, including many fun cover bands. Take a blanket and picnic basket and make a night of it. The views of the lake are gorgeous, and it’s a great time to relax with family and friends. The Harbor also has lots of delicious restaurants and treats to try if you want to get dinner there.

Come to downtown Rockwall’s San Jacinto Plaza and catch live music every Friday and Saturday evening, May through October, from 7–9:30pm. You’re welcome to bring your own chair, food, and drinks, and there are tons of places around where you can also purchase food. Find the music series schedule here.

Where to Eat in Rockwall
Fate Food Haul

A new food truck park recently opened near downtown Fate featuring food options for the family with a variety of tastes! The lot has five food trucks: Smoak Town (barbecue), Shayna’s Place (American gourmet), Rollin’ Beans Coffee Co., MamaRita’s (margaritas, daiquiris, wine, and beer), and Siesta Time (Mexican food). They have a great outdoor seating area with picnic tables where you can sit and enjoy a yummy snack or meal. On weekends, you can even hear live music! Check their Facebook page for current updates.

Fun on Lake Ray Hubbard
Sail with Scott

Rockwall County is lucky to be located near Lake Ray Hubbard, and summer is a perfect time to take a tour on the water! You and the family can schedule a day or night tour on the water (or make it a date night!). Seawolf, the ship you’ll be on, was built here in Rockwall from 2006–2008.

Seawolf is a beautiful 40-foot-long by 25-foot-wide sailing catamaran, hand-built of beautiful Spanish cedar. Its capacity is 49 guests. It sails from the Harbor in Rockwall, where it has a private docking area between the shore and the lighthouse.”

Amy Pierce is their captain and would love to take you out on the water. Head to their website at the link above to book your trip.

Where to Find Shaved Ice in Rockwall
Honey’s

When temps hit the triple digits, there’s nothing much better than a giant cup of shaved ice! Honey’s offers shaved ice with powdered snow, featuring tons of different flavors and combinations. They are beginning their third season in business and love seeing families out at the stand, including pups. (The menu features a pup treat, too!) It’s a local, family-owned business, and they have a great outdoor seating area. Check out their Facebook at the link above for weekly updates, including other food trucks that frequently visit.

Shop Local in Rockwall
Rockwall Farmers Market

Every Saturday, from May to September, come out to Rockwall’s Historic Downtown Square and shop the farmers market. There are variety of vendors and shops, including farm harvests, artisan foods, florists, and bakers. And several times, I’ve seen pet adoptions going on out there. This is a great opportunity to find unique goods and gifts as you shop and support local merchants in the Rockwall area.

Connect with Nature in Rockwall
Ham Orchard

Just about 20 minutes outside of Rockwall County, you and the family can visit Ham Orchard in Terrell. Open from mid-May to mid-August, the orchard’s main crop is Texas peaches. The orchard has a store and kitchen selling fried pies, nuts, fudge, and some of the best ice cream around! Monday–Saturday you can get Eddie Deen’s BBQ which actually features their famous peaches. The orchard is closed on Sundays, and we recommend checking their Facebook page for the most up-to-date information.
