Looking for a great pediatric office in Dallas?

Ok, you found out you’re pregnant. Yay! You’ve made it through the first trimester {praise the Lord for Zofran!}, you’ve told family and friends you are expecting, and you have even checked some things off of Jenn’s Must-Do list for first time moms.

Now it’s time to do some research on something big. Picking. Your. Pediatrician. Yikes! This is not as much fun as registering for baby gear or decorating a nursery, but this is definitely a decision you don’t want to take lightly! I know I felt this way after finding out I was pregnant with my first. On my list of requirements for our pediatrician: must come recommended from a mom I trust and must fit my personality. I knew I needed a somewhat laid back doctor that would let me freak out about anything and not look at me like I was crazy, but also talk me off of the ledge when my kid had something wrong. I tend to be an over-reactor {I come by it honestly!} and therefore didn’t need an over-the-top doctor. I also knew I wanted an office that had a Lactation Consultant on staff. I had already made the decision to breastfeed and wanted to have help if I needed it {and boy, I used those ladies a TON with both babies!}. Another requirement was that they offer evening and Saturday hours. Babies don’t always get sick at 9am on a weekday morning!

One of my mom friends suggested Pediatric Associates of Dallas or PAD. She had been taking her kids there for years and had nothing but great things to say about it. After looking through all of the doctor’s bios, I decided to meet with my friend’s doctor, who also happened to be an Aggie {whoop!}. I called the office to set up a meeting with the doctor before Chloe came along. I think I was around 7 months pregnant. Luckily, we hit it off and I knew he would be a great fit for our family. Four years and another kid later, we are still very happy with our doctor and the PAD office. So, if you’re a new mom or new to the Dallas area, PAD should be on your list of pediatricians offices to visit. Here is a little more about PAD from their website:

  1. I personally was looking for a smaller practice with a more “hometown feel” (having come from a very small hometown), and I found Dr. William Moore.  He and his associate, Dr. Tana Roberts, are amazing!  I have two young children, and I have never had trouble getting a same-day appointment for a sick kid (that seems to be people’s biggest concern with smaller practices).  Check them out!

  2. We wanted someone more focused on holisitc medicine, so we go to Healthy Kids Pediatrics in Frisco (a drive! but worth it!) because they are the only practice that we found like this. Well, there is one in McKinney, but they don’t take insurance. So HKP it is!

  3. When I was pregnant, I interviewed a few pediatricians and loved Dr. David Samara of the Pediatric Place in West Plano! He’s been so great with my son, and has awesome bedside manor. I’ve always been so impressed with the nurses each time I go in! They make my son feel very comfortable. They also have a breastfeeding specialist (Michelle Hickman, R.N.).  It was nice to be able to take him in for a check-up and see her about issues I was having all at the same itme.

  4. With the help of Doctor Carolyn Ashworth, parents can be assured about the health of their children. This is very important if you want to be secured with your child’s health.
