Save Room for Dessert at Sweet Mix

1

If I could get away with it, I would eat desserts for every meal.  I’m a bad example for my child-I won’t eat all of my dinner just to save room for dessert.  I have a bad habit of having to end every meal with something sweet.  I love pretty much all kinds-cakes, pies, puddings.

My daughter hasn’t picked up my habits completely but does enjoy an ice cream treat every now and then.  One of my absolute favorite places to go is Sweet Mix in Richardson, located in the East Side Shopping Center.

Sweet Mix has something for everyone in the family, even people who aren’t a huge dessert fan like my husband.  He will usually get a bubble tea or fusion tea-green tea with fruit and/or jelly bits.  They also have shaved snow-a familiar take on shaved ice but with condensed milk and fruit topped with a scoop of ice cream.  I wasn’t sure about it the first time I ordered it, but quickly became a fan.

Every time we go though, I have an internal struggle over picking between a crepe or waffle sandwich.  Both are equally delicious, sometimes I will have my husband order whichever lost the mental battle knowing that he won’t eat all of it so I can have a bite and enjoy both.

The crepes are perfectly thin, filled with different toppings to create desserts called, “Romeo and Juliet” (strawberries, bananas, Nutella) or “Give Me S’more” (graham crackers, chocolate chips, marshmallow crème, Nutella).  All crepes come with a side of ice cream, my daughter and I have a deal that I will eat the filled crepe and she will eat the ice cream.

Waffle sandwiches are sold in half size or full-always go for the full.  It is a small upgrade but so worth it, after only having a small half you will regret not having the bigger portion.  Many of the same crepe styles are available for the waffle sandwiches, but my favorite for the waffles is “Peanut Butter Crunch” (bananas, peanut butter crunch and Nutella).  They also have trendy red velvet waffles, which I have never tried but can tell is a popular item by checking out everyone else’s plates.

Sweet Mix is small, but cozy place.  They have a bookshelf filled with books and table board games so it is the perfect location to spend an hour enjoying dessert and family time.  One last hint though-if you go on a Friday or Saturday night, be sure to be prepared for a line (it goes quickly) but you won’t be disappointed!
