“Do they kiss?!”  my five year old daughter, Evelyn, asked me after learning that we were going to see Rodger & Hammerstein’s CINDERELLA, now playing with Dallas Summer Musicals.

Cinderella Kiss

Not only do they share a special kiss on stage, the characters of the beloved story dance, sing and invite us along the familiar journey we have all come to love.

Growing up, I truly identified with Cinderella (in fact my first e-mail address was Cinderella based).  I like to think I saw myself in her courageous and preserving heart, but knowing my teenage self I’m sure it had more to do with the evil mother figure or the fact that Ella was required to do all the household chores.

Having the opportunity to share the experience of seeing Ella’s story come to life on stage with my daughter is one I will reflect on fondly.  We both immensely enjoyed the beautiful sets, immaculate costumes and convincing storytelling-my normally ancy pants girl did not need one reminder to sit still because she was in complete awe of the entire spectacle.

While we all know the tale of Cinderella meeting her prince, there are a few unique twists to the story to keep everyone intrigued and offer a different perspective.  I won’t give them all away but I will say that after the show, one thing my daughter was so excited because Ella had brown hair-just like her!

If you are bringing young ones, I would warn them this is a different (but equally awesome) version of Cinderella they may be expecting-my daughter had more questions and thoughts than time allowed during intermission because she wanted to discuss all the differences.

While it is perfect for a family outing, the musical is hilarious and romantic-perfect for a date night if you want to leave the little ones behind for a night out!  Either way, you still have plenty of time to see the show for yourself-Rodgers & Hammerstein’s CINDERELLA!
