Nursery Tour :: Behind Locked Doors

3

When Abbe discovered she and her husband were expecting, they were living in the Lakewood area of Dallas. They’d had a lot of fun renovating their older home, and wanted their nursery to be a part of that process. There was only one problem: they were keeping their baby’s gender a secret! Throughout pregnancy, their nursery designer Linde Browning was the only person who knew the sex of the baby. As the nursery space began to take shape, the door to the room was kept under lock and key.  Abbe was a little nervous trusting someone with such a huge secret, but knew Linde would do an excellent job. You see, not only did Linde want to make her “client” happy, but the room she was creating also happened to be the nursery for Linde’s first nephew!

1. What was your inspiration for this room? Linde suggested a giraffe print wall for either gender as a starting point, which I loved! Avery is now 4, so this was just before we started seeing giraffes in nurseries. We chose a fabric for a boy and girl, and she based the remainder of the design from the fabrics. She used the fabric as inspiration for the hand-painted heirloom dresser (handed down from my grandparents), created a special space for Avery’s name on the wall, and styled the room.

2. What did you do first to the room? Where did you start? We started painting the walls a blank canvas for Avery’s room. Linde then painted the spots and closed the door! After that we were locked out until the baby was born.
3. What’s one thing you’re most proud of in this room? I don’t know that I could choose any one thing as my favorite. I love all the details from the monogram on the window valance to the dresser that is adorable for a little boy and once was a part of my grandparent’s lives. If I had to choose, it would probably be Avery’s name on the wall. He is named after 4 very special men in our family, so I love that it is prominently displayed and that the letters can be removed to keep or redisplay as Avery grows and changes his room.
4. What was one of the biggest challenges you faced while decorating?  I have to say I faced little in the way of challenges. I didn’t have to do much work, if any. I told Linde I wanted the room to be unique and able to grow from a nursery into a toddler room and she exceeded all my expectations!
5. Were you working with a budget when designing the room? We are very fortunate to have Linde! She gave her time and expertise as a gift to our babies and our families gifted items such as the crib, dressers, etc. or money to the overall cost.
Abbe & Michael are currently expecting Baby #3, and Avery’s room will be transformed by Linde into a new nursery while Avery begins to share a room with his little brother Hank. The room has been locked, and the nursery will once again be revealed when the Wee One is born at the end of April!

Through a happy coincidence, she stumbled upon (what was then known as) Dallas Moms Blog in 2012 and found a community she’d been looking for since coming a mom. Shortly after joining the team, she gratefully accepted the “baton” passed to her as new owner of the site, and took off with it running full speed! Krystal not only helped to grow Dallas Moms into a large parenting resource, but also launched Collin County Moms in 2016; providing those in the north Dallas suburbs their community resource platform. While building a community, uniting the moms, and growing a business around this passion was a dream come true, after almost 10 years, Krystal officially stepped down as owner, and is now focusing on raising her 4 boys with her husband, Tim, and rediscovering old hobbies.
