How to Support Local Businesses NOW & After COVID-19

0

shop local in Dallas during covid-19There are still so many unknowns with COVID-19. Why do some people get hit so hard? How are others totally asymptomatic?? I don’t think I’ve ever been more curious about anything in my life. Give me data!

But there’s one thing about this pandemic we do know for sure: All the closures, while super important, have been brutal for many small businesses in Dallas. Big box chains exist anywhere and everywhere. It’s the small businesses that make a city special, and we want to protect that. Financial uncertainties are a reality for tons of us right now, so splashing out on extras might not be in the cards. But if you are in a position to help, here’s how you can:

• Get takeout! A break from cooking and a chance to support a struggling local business. Win/win. Coronavirus fears shouldn’t prevent you from eating food prepared by others. Here’s a great break down if you haven’t already looked into it. Also, if possible, order directly from the restaurant vs. a third party; that way the restaurant doesn’t have to give away a major chunk of their profits.

• We’ve all heard about the gift card idea. For places you regularly visit but can’t right now (hair and nail salons, spas, boutiques, indoor play areas, etc.), consider buying a gift card. The business gets cash now to help weather the storm, and you get to treat your future self.

• Lots of local businesses have tailored their services to better fit our current circumstances. Kits, deliveries, shipping, online options… A friend of mine ordered ice cream delivery from Sweet Firefly the other day, complete with cones! If you have a favorite spot, be sure to check online to see if they’ve changed things up lately.

• Dallas Moms recently reached out to local businesses asking how we can help. We’re including their responses below, for anyone who feels inclined to support!

The Knight School

Join their high-energy WebParty and become a part of the intellectually-curious horde of kids enjoying all the fun and intellectual benefits of chess: creativity, problem-solving, critical thinking, academic confidence, goal-orientation, and a self-identity as a very smart kid.

There are five WebParties, one each afternoon at 3:00pm. Each is very different from the other and has been developmentally targeted for specific audiences, and we teach straight to them. Each WebParty ends with all of us adjourning to our own private WebTourney where we all play chess together in a stress-free, private forum just for our class. The dramatic countdown to the big-finish, timed-out end of the WebTourney makes things exciting!
The Knight School has never turned a child away for financial reasons, and we certainly never will. I want to offer your child a special rate so that they can participate in our WebParty. They may pay the standard $90 per month, or they may opt to pay $70, $50, $30, $0, or any amount whatsoever that fits in your budget. All suggested tuition amounts are instantly welcomed.

However, you’re still able to support us and our artists. Buy a gift card which you can use to book tickets at a later date and get one FREE! 100% of these funds go towards paying our artists and team members. Because when this is over, there will be beautiful things waiting for you to explore.
