Hello, I’m New Here

2

Many of you know from a previous post that my husband and I are fairly-new Dallas residents as of almost exactly a year ago. We moved due to job promotion and landed here in the good ol’ state of Texas. An exciting venture, to be sure, we were bursting at the seams to get here and start our new life.

But as we settled into our new routine, the rose colored glasses quickly fell off. I was lost, didn’t know where to start, and didn’t know who to ask! Luckily, I found Dallas Mom’s Blog, but seriously, had I not found this resource, I might have gone crazier. (I say crazier because I’m already a bit nuts ๐Ÿ˜‰ So here are some things that helped me to ease into my new life — which is still not easy, but this makes it easier:

  • Dallas Mom’s Blog Playgroups – these are planned on a regular basis to provide mommies with a place to get to know other mommies and let the kids run off some steam
  • MOPS (Mother’s of PreSchoolers) – “MOPS is about meeting the needs of every mom of a child from conception through kindergarten.” With meetings, playgroups, and mom’s night outs, it supports mommies in those years before school.
  • JustMoved.org – This is a website of encouragement for women who have moved and are needing encouragement along the way.
  • The Library – I wasn’t a library-goer where we lived previously, but now I am! They have storytime, a play area (usually) for kids with board books, movie days during the summer, and craft times for the little ones. Just Google the library for your city/area and go!
  • Parks – Y’all have some of the BEST public parks I have ever seen!! Be thankful, many areas in the US (including my home state) have cut funds drastically for parks and recreation, but the parks here in Dallas are amazing. Now that it is getting cooler, its a perfect way to get out of the house and possibly meet another mom in your area at the playground!
  • If you are religious, get hooked into a church ASAP. I can’t emphasize this enough! There is so much community through churches (often offering MOPS, playgroups, and the like)!
Hopefully this helped! Moving is a big deal and getting hooked in and settled into your new city can be an extremely difficult transition. Just know that we, here at Dallas Mom’s Blog, are here for you!
