Get far From the City Without Going Far – Beavers Bend State Park

3

Are you in need of a family friendly get-a-way? Tired of going, going, and going at a Dallas pace all of the time? I think I may have found the perfect solution! We escaped this weekend to Beavers Bend State Park outside of Broken Bow, OK. It was like stepping into another world for us city folk! Beautiful country of forrests, creeks, lakes, horses, old trains, campfires and stars.

For those that really seek adventure, you can sleep in a tent in the middle of the woods. We chose a 5 bedroom log cabin complete with king beds in every room, granite countertops, and a gameroom. MY KIND OF CAMPING! Beavers Bend is in the Southeast corner of Oklahoma. Just a short 3 hour drive from the city. We traveled with 5 other families which allowed the kids to have non-stop fun and the adults to spread out the work load for meals and clean up.

For entertainment, we played outdoor games, roasted marshmallows around a beautiful campfire, went for kid-friendly hikes, road old trains, and even squeezed in canoeing and paddle-boating. The kids were truly in their bliss!

The leaves are just now starting to turn and the weather is just cool enough to need a jacket around the fire in the evenings. If it is time for your family to escape and make some memories in a beautiful spot, give Beavers Bend a try!

Does anyone else have a favorite spot to escape the city with kids? We would love to hear…
