Spring is lingering in the air a little longer this year making it more enjoyable than ever to be outside. Bubble wands, bicycles, and sidewalk chalk cover our front porch where we’ve been spending most of our evenings. The Texas heat isn’t here yet, but we know it’s coming soon, so we’ll take advantage of the weather and escape outside as often as we can! If you’re like my family and are looking for creative ways to be outdoors, head over to The Shops at Park Lane THIS Saturday, May 21st for their first annual Chalk the Park.

On May 21st from 10am-5pm, The Shops at Park Lane (located at the Southeast Corner of Park Lane and Central Expressway) will turn their sidewalks into a unique art gallery for their 1st annual chalk art festival called Chalk The Park’. The event will take place in The Park — a landscaped lawn located in the heart of the shopping center.

The all-day chalk festival will give attendees the chance to witness professional artists create colossal eye-popping chalk art murals. Attendees (That means you and your kids!) are also invited to cover the sidewalks with your own chalk designs, creating a path of colorful murals wrapping around the park and neighboring storefronts.

Live music by DJ Jose G will be featured throughout the day along with complimentary face painting for the kids from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Participants are encouraged to share their creativity by using the hashtag #theparkatparklane.

And while you’re there, I encourage you to take a look around the 33.5 acre development as new retailers and restaurants have recently moved in making this shopping center even more family-friendly. The Park provides a place to relax and dine outdoors with views of the open green space and multiple water features while enjoying live music.  Plus, there’s shopping for everyone! Stop in and browse their name brand outlets, value retailers, full-price stores and unique boutiques. Stores like Nordstrom Rack, Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5th, Bloomingale’s The Outlet, Saint Bernard Sports Outlet, Old Navy, Ulta, J. Crew Mercantile, F21 RED, and more!

If you haven’t made plans yet for this Saturday, grab your chalk and bring the whole family!   The admission is FREE (and so’s the parking)!

Find out more information by visiting their website at www.theshopsatparklane.com or stay connected with them on Facebook for up-to-date information.

Will we see you there?

Krystal Hurst
Krystal is a Dallas-native who began her career as a fourth grade teacher in Richardson RISD, but quickly changed paths to became a stay-at-home mom in 2011. Through a happy coincidence, she stumbled upon (what was then known as) Dallas Moms Blog in 2012 and found a community she’d been looking for since coming a mom. Shortly after joining the team, she gratefully accepted the “baton” passed to her as new owner of the site, and took off with it running full speed! Krystal not only helped to grow Dallas Moms into a large parenting resource, but also launched Collin County Moms in 2016; providing those in the north Dallas suburbs their community resource platform. While building a community, uniting the moms, and growing a business around this passion was a dream come true, after almost 10 years, Krystal officially stepped down as owner, and is now focusing on raising her 4 boys with her husband, Tim, and rediscovering old hobbies.
