daytime date ideas in Dallas

Finding alone time with your spouse can be tricky in the midst of juggling parenting, work, school, and whatever else is on your plate. And it can often be an added challenge to plan financially for a lavish date night on the weekend AND line up a reliable babysitter.

While I do enjoy getting dressed up and going out to a nice restaurant or event downtown every now and then, my husband and I have found that we really enjoy spending time together during the day at local, casual places while sporting our favorite jeans and sneakers. Bonus points if we can eat something yummy, not pay a whole lot, and be home in time for our kiddos’ evening bedtime routine.

Here are a few casual, quality time date ideas that you and your partner are sure to enjoy!

1. Dallas Farmers Market

920 S Harwood St, Dallas, TX 75201

The Dallas Farmers Market is a great place to venture if you enjoy shopping local, if you’re a foodie, or if you love browsing unique specialty items. The Farmers Market consists of the outdoor vendor market called “The Shed” along with an indoor space called “The Market.” Buy local produce, taste lots of delicious foods made by local vendors, shop handmade goods, and be sure to poke around the garden and chicken coop while you’re there. The Shed at the Dallas Farmers Market is also pet-friendly and a great place to bring your littles if you want to have a family day!

2. Friend and Foe Board Game Cafe

2929 Custer Rd Suite 312, Plano, TX 75075

Attention board game lovers, this one’s for you! Friend and Foe Board Game Cafe is a cool place to hang out, grab a sandwich and some tea or coffee, and try out a few new board games. I really enjoy playing board games because there’s an element of competition and lots of strategy and thinking, but there’s also lots of fun and conversation to be had! Game passes are $5 per person and there is a wall of shelves stocked with games. From classic party games to more intense strategy games, you’re sure to find something you’ll both enjoy.

3. Pinstack

Locations in Irving, Plano, & Allen

Pinstack is the perfect daytime date location for the couple that wants to reconnect with their inner kid. Guests can enjoy bowling by the hour or half hour as well as a full tavern-style menu and bar. When your game is done, head over to the arcade! Nothing brings a couple together more than some friendly arcade competition! Pinstack is also a great family spot for families with elementary-aged kids and up.

4. Class Axe Throwing

715 N Glenville Dr suite 440, Richardson, TX 75081

For those who enjoy adventure, check out Class Axe Throwing in Richardson. Couples will learn about proper axe throwing with expert coaches and then compete to see who has the best aim and arm strength! This experience is best for competitive couples and is a great option for a large group date. You can find more info on their website.

5. Galleria Dallas Ice Skating

Inside the Galleria Mall; 13350 Dallas Pkwy #200, Dallas, TX 75240

Ice skating can be the perfect mix of romantic and fun! Take a trip over to the Galleria Mall to the lower level Skating Rink (open year-round) for some casual, inexpensive fun. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned ice skater, this is a great way to chat and reconnect with your significant other. While you’re there, stop at the food court for a snack and browse the shops!
