Fashion Friday: Dry Shampoo

0

dryRemember the days when you had the luxury of an hour or more to get ready in the morning every single day?  Yeah, I don’t really remember either.  But, that’s what I hear used to happen.  These days, a shower can be a huge mark in the win column.

Maybe my head was stuck in the sand, but before kids I didn’t really know anything about dry shampoo.  Now, I seem to have semi-regular conversations with my mommy friends about which dry shampoo is best and why.

Dry shampoo is my personal best friend because it can revive that day-old (or two or three) hair to almost good as new until you find time in your life to jump in the shower again.

Directions: Part your hair where the grease seems to collect.  (I know, gross.)  Spray generously and use your fingers to massage the product in.  Repeat in other greasy sections.  I like to run the hair dryer over my hair after applying the dry shampoo to make sure everything is evenly distributed and the air blast seems to help with the product smell.

Here’s a collective list of Dallas Moms Blog’s favorite dry shampoo brands:

1.  Umberto – Unlike some products that can make your hair feel stiff and sticky like hair spray, fans of Umberto’s product say their hair is extra soft after use and feels clean again.  Plus, the odor isn’t too strong like other sprays on the market.  $12.99

2.  Serge Normant Meta Revive – One of our Dallas Moms Blog contributors stumbled across this product in a Birchbox and fell in love.  She says the price is a little more to cough up, but the quality is so worth it.  $25.00

3.  Suave – This inexpensive option especially works well if your hair is thick, fine, or oily.  There gets to be a point when your hair is too far gone to work on the entire head, but Suave can still salvage a ponytail.  Just pull your hair up and spray the parts you still see.  $2.88

4.  Bumble and Bumble – I like that Bumble and Bumble offers hair color options for their hair powder.  Pick from shades of brown, black, white, and blonde to best blend into your head.  Although more expensive than some of the other cans on this list, I have friends who swear B and B for life.  $35.00

5. Got 2b Rockin’ It – The last thing you want is a messy residue giving away your bottle secrets.  Got2B doesn’t leave flakes behind in its track.  I find the scent to be a little overpowering, but manageable with a hair dryer blast.  $6.50

6.  Ion – Ion is committed to providing products that do not come from animal derivatives and users say the dry shampoo leaves their hair with extra body and a yummy scent.  $5.99

hair1Or, if you feel extra ambitious like contributor Jenny, make your own dry shampoo.  Jenny has been making her powder for years and gives an easy how-to on her blog here.
