Dallas has seen so much growth recently, and new families may not know how much the neighborhood schools in DISD have to offer.

DISD offers families the opportunity to cultivate the future for students by enrolling their children in schools filled with options close to home. With everything from fine arts programs to career institutes to athletic programs, you can find a good fit for your child at a neighborhood DISD school.

One of the wonderful things about living in North Texas is the rich culture and history we have here. There is no better way to immerse yourself in the neighborhood you have chosen than to attend your neighborhood school. It’s what our family has done, and we love our public school.

So, what can we moms expect for our children at DISD?

The district’s mission is “Prepare ALL students for success.” DISD celebrates diversity. The school district comprises 384 square miles, according to the website, and is the second-largest public school district in Texas and 16th largest in the nation. Everything is bigger in Texas, right?

The district includes more than 153,000 students and more than 22,000 employees. DISD students come from 150 countries and speak more than 70 languages.

Innovation Programs in DISD neighborhood schools feature programs like leadership academies, STEAM, personalized learning, and more. This is a great place for those future engineers and scientists.

DISD also boasts one of the largest Dual Language Programs in the country. There are 158 schools offering dual language in the district.

For older students, Career Institutes get our high schoolers ready with skills and certifications that will serve them well in their future careers.

Whether you’re raising a budding violinist, a drummer, a dancer, or an illustrator, one of the more than 650 co-curricular Fine Arts Programs in schools across DISD may be the right fit for your child. They’ll get a quality education and the opportunity to showcase and develop their talent.

There are more than 13,000 student athletes participating in sports through DISD’s Athletic Programs. And there are numerous extracurricular activities available from debate to cheerleading.

Free, tuition-based, and scholarship-based Pre-K opportunities are available for the youngest DISD students. And Special Education accommodations are available too with support for families and students.

According to the Council of the Great City Schools, Dallas ISD is “one of the nation’s fastest improving school districts.” The district is home to two of the top 20 public high schools in the U.S., according to U.S. News & World Report in 2020. If you’re curious, those two schools are the Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center’s School for the Talented and Gifted as well as the Irma Lerma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School.

DISD has invested more than $2 billion in schools and academic programs since 2015. This funding has gone to renovations, additions, and other improvements.

So, if you are new to the area or just beginning to consider where your young children are going to attend school, know that there are neighborhood schools in DISD where you can watch your child grow, learn, and thrive. This is home.
