Camp Kidville: A Daily Summer Getaway

Dallas Moms Blog partners with Kidville to bring moms up-to-date information about great events and activities for children. Find out what’s happening this summer to help gives mom a little break between spring and fall preschool!

When May rolled around, like many moms, my thoughts were already drifting to what I was going to do with my 2 year old for the summer once Mother’s Day Out ended.

I refused to just take him anywhere. It took almost a whole semester of getting to know his MDO teachers before I was finally convinced that my son was in good hands. (And by the end of the year, I was almost in tears that he had to leave their class!) I was already having mommy-guilt about enrolling him into preschool twice a week in the Fall, so I wasn’t about to send him to a rec center or museum where he’d be away every day.

I’d just about decided that it wasn’t worth finding a place that would meet all my specifications and have my trust just to have a few hours of free time a week when Kidville came to my rescue!

camp-kidville-logoThis summer, Kidville is offering “summer camp” for kids ages 18 months to 6 years; with your choice of 2 days or 3 days a week. You also get to pick whether they go for just 2 weeks, or a longer 8 weeks, or even 12 weeks to last you through the beginning of the next school year!

Each week has different themes that spark creativity and imagination. From Storybooks & Fairytales to Dinosaurs Rock, there’s a theme for every interest!

The days are divided up into 30 minute segments of art, music, science/exploration, gym, and social hall (for the older kids).

And what I love the most is that the teachers and helpers are trained to work with children and aren’t just babysitters. The groups stay small with very low teacher to child ratio, and they know how to handle children going through attachment phases (like mine) and little ones who miss their mommies. Although in my son’s class drop-off is optional, after the first day, I felt 100% confident in leaving him in their hands.

As a mom I’m sure you know, but you have a whole different respect for the people who go above and beyond to care for your children as if they were their own family — and that’s what the teachers at Kidville do.

So, if you’re looking for a way for your kids to socialize, avoid getting sunburns at the spray parks every day, and let’s face it, get a little bit of a mommy break, then try Camp Kidville!
