Back to reality

Today is the last day of our Hawaiian vacation.  As you may know, my husband does an insane amount of travel for his work and I do the parenting thing on my own for the most part.  It’s not ideal but we do our best and as with anything, it’s not all bad.  Thanks to all the frequent flier miles and hotel points, I get to write this post with this as my scenery.

The view from our hotel room - not too shabby!

I was borderline paranoid about the flight over.  I didn’t want to be that guy trying to wrangle a screaming baby on a five hour flight while everyone rolled their eyes and sighed and cursed my existence.  I scoured the internet for every tip, trick and secret to keeping a baby occupied and I followed them all.  I’ll spare you the details but thankfully, they worked!  A couple of people actually came up to us in the baggage claim area when we arrived just to say how impressed they were with how she did on the flight!  I was so proud of my baby and I’m hoping for the same success on the way home.

Ready to start our beach time!

This vacation has been just what our family needed and I’m convinced that Hawaii has magic in the air.  In addition to my worries about the flight, I was concerned that the time change would wreak havoc on my baby’s system and we would be miserable the entire time.  Luckily, we have had no issues whatsoever.  In fact, we have all stayed so active every day that Sofia has actually slept through every single night!  As a fellow mom, you know how major that is!  Getting to sleep more than four hours a night is the true definition of paradise in my book!  We’ve gone to the pool or the beach every day and there is nothing more heartwarming than to see your child discovering new things and seeing the wonder on their little faces.  For the record, Sofia is not at all interested in sand.  Every time we put her down, she’d take a couple of steps and demand “Up!”  She was much happier in the pool and we spent hours just floating and splashing and it was heaven.

We’ve been here for ten days and by the time you read this, we’ll be on our way back to the great state of Texas!  I have no regrets; I don’t wish we could stay longer, I don’t want to move here.  This was just what the doctor ordered.  We got our family time, we recharged and it has been great.  I’m looking forward to coming home with a renewed sense of energy.  I’m ready to get back to reality and get back to the place I call home!

When was your last vacation?  What do you do to recharge your batteries?
