If you’re looking for a fun family getaway just a short drive from Dallas, Marble Falls, TX is the perfect spot! It has everything you’d want in a family vacation. Beautiful scenery, great food, and so much to do! Right now is the time to visit too! Marble Falls is the most festive little town, celebrating 30 years of their Walkway of Lights tradition. The lights and all of the family fun there were worth the drive itself!

Visiting Marble Falls

The Beautiful Lake View

Marble Falls is positioned right on the Colorado River. The view from this quaint little town is absolutely breathtaking! Texas is known for its gorgeous sunsets. But if you haven’t seen the sun go down along Lake Marble Falls, you’re missing out! The sunrises are just as beautiful, so do your family a favor and book a room with a water view. You can thank me later.

The Shops and Downtown

Exploring the charming shops in downtown Marble Falls made me feel like I was right in the middle of a Hallmark movie! Each corner has been draped with Christmas lights and festive decorations.  It’s absolutely a sight to see! If you haven’t yet taken your family Christmas card photo, there are plenty of picturesque spots in town to snap a card-worthy photo.  Enjoy shopping in the delightful shops and don’t miss popping onto Sugar Mama’s Bakery for a Christmas cookie, or five!

Delicious restaurants

Speaking of food, be sure you come hungry! Bear King Brewing co is a must-try. With generous portions of delicious pub food, you will not want to miss out. The Beer Cheese Queso was absolutely scrumptious. And Mom and Dad sure enjoyed partaking of their libations! Helpful hint: Order the Milky Way Marshmallow Milk Stout. It’s the official beer of the 30th Annual Walkway of Lights. The proceeds benefit the Marble Falls Chamber of Commerce, who work hard putting on the event each year. And if you are worried about dining during this Covid pandemic, this restaurant has got safety precautions down! The restaurant has gone cashless. All ordering is done online, even from your table.  The restaurant is open to 50% capacity with a limited table size of 6 guests. We personally sat out on the large patio and felt very safe.

If you haven’t filled up on Sugar Mama’s Cookies, go grab some pie at the Bluebonnet Cafe for dessert. With no less than 15 flavors of delectable pie, there is something for everyone! The Bluebonnet cafe prides themselves on their downhome cooking! Though we only tried the pie, I can tell you the delicious smells coming from the little cafe were heavenly! We are looking forward to going back for some breakfast during our next visit. We did an online order and they brought it right to our car! It was the perfect way to end the weekend.

Walkway of Lights and Ice skating

Christmas in Marble Falls is spectacular! The Walkway of lights event was the highlight of our weekend! Our family had so much fun! We started off the event with a little ice skating.  The rink features real ice and is situated right on the lake. It is also conveniently next to the Walkway of Lights entrance. The water view while skating was stunning! Remember when I said I felt like I was in a Hallmark movie? The ice skating would’ve been the movie’s climax! The only thing missing was Santa himself blessing us with a surprise snowfall!  It was absolutely magical! After skating, take your family over for some hot chocolate at the refreshment stand before enjoying the enchanting Walkway of Lights.

The Marble Falls Chamber of Commerce works hard each year to provide this free event to the community.  The Walkway of Lights runs nightly from November 20th through January 2nd from 6-10pm, weather permitting of course.  The display features over 2 million Christmas Lights on more than 130 extraordinary sculptures.  The lights illuminate over the gorgeous lake, sparkling in the water’s reflection. It is absolutely a spectacular view.

Marble Falls is definitely the holiday trip you and your family need to take this year.  The quaint town, adorable shops, and lake views are worth the trip year round.  When you accompany the perpetual charm with the festive decorations, ice skating, and the Walkway of Lights event, Marble Falls is the perfect choice for a holiday getaway close to home. You won’t regret it!
